This wasn't THE bridge the Scottish army and William Wallace crossed to defeat the English in the first battle of Independence in 1297. This bridge replaced the wooden bridge which was in the same location. This replacement was built late 1400s - early 1500s according to Historic Scotland. To the right in the background, rightly on a high place, sits the Wallace monument
