Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Staverton on the South Devon Heritage Railway. The event was a night photographic charter booked with Timeline Events. I am a enthusiastic amateur who has an interest in railway photography. Particularly in heritage railways.

Time

The photo was taken as part of a photographic charter in the early evening in February so there was little ambient light.

Lighting

There wasn't much in the way of natural light but the people organising the charter had setup constant lighting stands so the subject was well lit from all sides.

Equipment

Was shot on a Nikon D3100 with a 18 - 55mm F/3.5?5.6 mounted on a tripod allowing for long exposure.

Inspiration

Railway photography has been an interest of mine for a while but all of my prior experience is during daylight. I was keen to try night photography witin a railway setting particularly with a railway setting.

Editing

I had to do a minimal amount of editing with this photo. An adjustment to the white balance as the auto balance had left the colour slightly off and a touch of lightening to bring out the colour in the sky.

In my camera bag

My photography bag general contains my camera body D3100, 18 - 55mm F/3.5?5.6, 55 - 300mm F/4.5-5.6 and a x1.4 telecoverter.

Feedback

I would heartily recommend booking a photographic charter that peaks your interests. These events are attended by people of varied skill levels who are willing to share their experience and will assist you in "getting the shot"
