Location
This photo was taken at a local park with one of the first families I ever photographed for Christmas cards. I am a self-taught photographer, and it was my first time at the park. It was a beautiful setting. Definitely using this park again and again. The lighting through the trees was perfect.Time
It was right around sunset on November 8th last year. Perfect timing for the colors that they were wearing.Lighting
I wanted the light from the sun that was peering through the trees to kind of act like a spotlight to their stolen kiss in front of their kids. :) I also used my speed light to fill the image.Equipment
This shot was taken with my Nikon D300. I used my go-to 50mm lens set at f/1.8, 1/200 shutter speed, and ISO 200.Inspiration
I love having my couples kiss during their sessions because it makes them loosen up with the shoot, and I find that their true emotions and smiles emerge following. I also remember being a child...and I HATED seeing my parents kiss. I thought it would be a good idea to show that in the photo, while still showing the love that these two have for one another. It also draws attention to their kiss...and that these children are a product of their love.Editing
Yes, I definitely played with the colors, sharpness, and bokeh. I have a lot of actions that I use frequently to get the right look for each image, and I feel like it gives a more dramatic feel.In my camera bag
I ALWAYS have my 50mm (f/1.8), 35mm (f/1.8), and 24-70mm (f/2.8). I also have an ultra wide-angle lens 11-16mm, 2.8. I find that I use the 35 for kids, and my 50 and 24-70 more for families. I also have to my speed light. I use the Yongnuo 565-EX. Definitely necessary to fill in light.Feedback
I only shoot outside at sunset or sunrise, so that I can ensure the shadows are where I want them. I also shoot with my subjects' backs to the sun, and then...I just act goofy to get them to laugh, feel comfortable with me...and take natural shots.
