Behind The Lens

Location
The photo has been taken in H?i An, a city in Vietnam, located on the coast of the South China Sea in the South Central Coast region, in the Qu?ng Nam Province. With approximately 120,000 inhabitants, H?i An is recognised as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. H?i An Ancient Town is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a South-East Asian trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century. Its buildings and its street plan reflect the influences, both indigenous and foreign, that have combined to produce this unique heritage site.
Time
This photo was taken on August 08th, 2014 at 12:01pm.
Lighting
As far as possible, I'm in use to take advantage of natural light. It is very important to check the weather forecast mostly if your journey plan doesn't allow to spend more than a couple of days on the site.
Equipment
This image was shot on a Nikon D600 with a Nikkor 70-200mm f/4 lens without involving a tripod.
Inspiration
I remember how difficult was to find a good location to be able to take a good image describing what I would about Hoi An. The hardest part was to find the right position at the right time by avoiding tourists. My aim was to realize a good composition from an interesting point of view and with a characteristic scenario. I spent a great among of time looking for the best combinations of those elements (this is one of the advanteges to be an habitual lonely traveler) but the result was worth the efforts.
Editing
Yes, I do. I regulated shadows and lights using Lightroom in order to bring out the details of the wall, making the picture a bit more dramatic. Moreover, I lightly increased the details of the elements in the foreground (people at first) as well as I decrease a bit the saturation of the warm color of the wall.
In my camera bag
As a frequent traveller and backpacker adicted, my choise in term of gear is usually a good tradeoff between quality and size/weight. I use a body NIKON D600 and the following lens and filters: NIKKOR AF-S 16-35mm f/4G ED VR, NIKKOR AF-S 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G IF ED VR, NIKKOR AF-S 70-200mm f/4G ED N VR. Few accessories complete my equipment: KENKO Digital Filter Circular PL, MANFROTTO Tripod MK293A4-A3RC1, KAAVIE Tracolla fast release, METZ Flash Mecablitz 52 AF-1.
Feedback
I suggest to walk a lot in order to discover the best place to stay waiting the best time and conditions to shot.
