Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken from my friends front yard in Fogo Island, Newfoundland. This was a shot of the neighbours dog and his stages.

Time

This is one of my favorite photos that I took on my trip to Newfoundland. This was taken around noon, with a heavy overcast cloud cover, on a nice fall day.

Lighting

Lighting is a challenge here as it is mostly cloudy, with occasional sunny breaks. This makes for alot of white balance issues and post production fun.

Equipment

Nikon d610 with a 28-300mm lens.

Inspiration

I was drawn to the way the dog was sitting beside the "beware of dog" sign, yet was the friendliest dog around. Also the way the contrast of the stage, against the foreground showed the way that life is on this isolated island community.

Editing

I balanced the photo, and added a vignette to the final photo. I also added a few presets in lightroom to bring out the reds and give it that rustic look.

In my camera bag

I normally pack my Nikon d10 with my tourist lens, the 24-300mm. This lens is good for just about everything while you are travelling. I also carry a 35mm and a 50mm for nice fast shots. I also have a Sigma 12-24 super wide angle lens for landscapes.

Feedback

I like to photograph moments in time that I want to have shown on my wall. By this I mean, take a candid shot of life in the community that your visiting or the moment your in. I find it adds to the truth of the photo. This adds to the story of your experience that made you take the photo in the first place.
