Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken near Terrace BC Canada. There is no shortage of wildlife in the area.

Time

I was heading home in the early afternoon on a cold day in February, after trying for frozen waterfall shots in Kitimat BC feeling a little down about the lack of quality in the shots. When we decided to try for wildlife.

Lighting

It was cold and clear, and the sky was a blue as could be, I think it gives the photo some nice contrast.

Equipment

I had taken 2 of my Pentax cameras with me that day, I had my 80-300 on my older K-30 so I was shooting with that camera when the opportunity for the Eagle shots came. It was hand held.

Inspiration

Who doesn't like a good bird shot ;) I am part of the local camera club and shoot for fun and to share in the joy of photography. I am not as adventurous as fellow members, I only have a few bear shots, unlike others. Birds feel safer. :)

Editing

I cropped the photo, and sharpened it a tad.

In my camera bag

When I head out for some adventure I try and take 2 cameras. It makes it easier and safer than changing lenses as situations change. I do take anywhere from 2 - 7 lenses. This is a habit I am trying to break, as I very seldom change them while out and about.

Feedback

I have yet to try it, but one piece of advice that was shared in my Club was to use the 10 and 10 rule. Walk for 10 minutes, wait for 10 minutes, and wildlife will almost always find you. Oh, and carry bear bangers and bear spray. (I live in the Great Bear Rain Forest area)
