When I purchased my DSLR, one of the places I went to photograph was in Point Reyes. I came across this boat, and snapped a few pics.
A couple of weeks later, I came to find out that this boat was owned by the grandfather of a classmate in high school. It's amazing as to how small this world really is.
I knew that my first round of photos were not all that great, for the sun had just set and the lighting was all wrong. When I purchased my wide angle lens, I already had a place to test it out in mind.
A week after I took this picture, this boat was badly damaged in a fire caused by some irresponsible photographers. It almost hurts to know that I was probably one of the last few photographers to get a shot of this beached vessel.
To my classmate from high school, I wish that the memory of this boat brings back many fond memories.

It's disappointing, that's for sure. Time to find another hidden gem in the Bay Area.

I revisited the boat recently, and the damage isn't quite as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Is this still out there? I heard someone set fire to it....if so, very sad. Great photo by the way!

Location
I made this photo just outside Point Reyes National Seashore in the little town of Inverness, CA.Time
I believe it was just before noon on a chilly day in February.Lighting
I remember it being a really bright, sunny day. I purposely took this shot with a faster than necessary shutter speed to preserve the blue hues of the sky.Equipment
For this shot I used a Canon Rebel T5 and a Tamron 10-18mm lens.Inspiration
I love photographing this boat, and every time that I visit it, I find a new angle to shoot.Editing
In post I brought up the exposure to brighten up the shot while maintaining the blue sky.In my camera bag
A modded Minolta 58mm 1.2 - that lens provides bokeh like none other.Feedback
Keep shooting. If you think you've taken enough shots of something, shoot 50 more. You never know what you'll find.
