This is a Medicine Hat horse taken the the Wild Mustang Refuge in South Dakota. According to my guide at the refuge, this horse is is typical of the legendary Medicine Hat horse and Native American legend. Accordingly, a Medicine Hat was believed to have a magical ability to protect its rider and apparently was reserved for the tribal Chief. Note the spot over its chest, resembles a shield along with the markings over his ears and blue eyes are the markings of the "war bonnet" and pink muzzle that makes up the ‘medicine hat’. An amazing living experience and education in Native American traditions.
