Male Downy Woodpecker enjoying a full meal in the sun in early spring on side of roughly barked tree. This wonderful hard working bird was completely oblivious to us as my Son Robson and I approached within 20 feet of it feeding. We were able to observe this woodpecker hard at work for over 20 minutes. Note the broken beak which fortunately did not seem to slow it down - glorious colours- taken in Wychwood Park, Toronto in the very very early spring.
