Cigoc (pron. chee-gotch) is a village in a Croatian area along river Sava which is known as European Stork Village.
Cigoc is host to numerous storks which regularly nest there for centuries. Some still have their nests on house roofs and chimneys. People try to relocate the nests to a pole with platform on top, so as to be able to actually use the chimneys.
Sometimes the storks will stubborny ignore the offer and return to the chimney!
These poles also create some distance from all that can drop from stork nests (like snakes, frogs, or whatever else the storks may have brought home from their meadow forays).
A friend of mine, an ornithologist, and her husband have patented the special tool for nest relocation, as this is no small feat, since some nests can weigh up to 1000 kilograms.
