Behind The Lens

Location

At Wolfe Cottage Studio in Three Holes, Norfolk

Time

In the evening

Lighting

The lighting was an experiment, it's pretty much all behind the model but wraps around beautifully

Equipment

Shot this with Canon 70D and a 50mm f2.5 lens, if I recall correctly there are two softboxes with strobes bouncing off the wall and through a large bit of sheer fabric.

Inspiration

This was literally the last shot I took. We were working through some ideas, and Ayla, the model, suggested throwing some shapes, and this is the result. It's very much a collaborative effort between me, Ayla and the studio owner Andrew Jennings, who helped with the lighting on this shoot.

Editing

I try to do a minimal amount in post. I cleaned the image up in PS removing the seam from the backdrop and tidying up boys and then I used Alienskin Exposure 7 to add the final finish.

In my camera bag

I don't tend to carry a lot, I have my Canon 70D and 50mm lens, as well as an 85mm. I do have an 18-55mm and a 55-250mm but don't generally use these on model shoots.

Feedback

This was one of my early shoots with a model. I worked with her and the studio owner, who had worked with her before, and listened to their advice. Be willing to experiment and take advantage of a model's skills.
