In the winter of 2015, My young Son Robson and I were blessed with a variety of duck-like over-wintering birds swimming in the lake including this glorious Male Red-breasted Merganser floating contentedly on Lake Ontario just off of the Tommy Thompson Park (conservation area) in Toronto. The outside temperature was hovering around the minus 15 Degree Celsius level, yet this and other Red-breasted Mergansers were lapping up the warmth of the winter sun. Colours incredible, and completely oblivious to us providing we never approached closer than some 75- 100 feet to it.
