Location
The photo was taken in Gmunden / Austria. It´s called "Schloß Ort" at lake "Traunsee".Time
The shot was made in the blue hour, it was an spontaneously idea. I drive about 1 hour to the location and hope there were a nice sunset to photograph.Lighting
I wanted to take an awesome sunset shot with the castle in the front, but i had no clue where the sun comes down... of course it was on the opposite side. Then the blue hour started, it becomes darker and darker and the scenerie was so much better than the sunset!Equipment
This shot was taken with my Nikon D800 and the Nikon 14-24 2.8G on a Manfrotto tripod and with an IR trigger.Inspiration
I want to take a picture of a castle in the sunset, this one was on water too, so perfect with the leading lines of the bridge to the castle. You know sometimes it doesn´t went as you wish, so the sun goes down behind me not in front but the blue hour comes up and has this special light and atmosphäre.Editing
Basically i don´t like hdr pictures, but in this one it was necessary to get all the details and this nice look. I used Photomatix to do this and post processed in Photoshop the final image. In my camera bag
I always travel with my Nikon D800, if it comes to People Photography i also use a battery grip. This lenses i love most for shooting people: Nikon 105mm 2.8 VR, Nikon 50mm 1.8G, Sigma 24-70 2.8, Tamron 70-200 2.8 VC. But if it comes to architecture and landscape photography i took also the Sigma 24-70 and my favorite Nikon 14-24 2.8G. For the Sigma i got an ND1000 filter for long exposures.Feedback
You can´t control the weather, the clouds and the sun. Make the best out of it or come back on another day. Some unexcpected light situations can come in handy for awesome shots, just try it!
