Behind The Lens

Location

We were on holiday in Puerto Calero on Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. We were wandering around the market and I caught this terrier poking his head out from under a market stall. He stayed there long enough, watching the passers by, for me to take a few shots. I loved the cheekiness of his face combined with the beautiful colours of the duvet covers on either side.....

Time

The market was open all morning and we walked down from the hotel at about 10am to experience the stalls, marina and atmosphere....

Lighting

The weather was a mixture of sun and clouds on that day and I used the natural lighting when this was captured.....

Equipment

I have two cameras but this was taken on my Sanyo GC20 which is a still and video camera combined, compact and perfect for taking on holiday. In these circumstances this was just hand held with no flash needed.

Inspiration

How could one resist this composition - right place right time!

Editing

No post processing apart from using levels, using Photoshop Elements 11, to enhance the image slightly.

In my camera bag

I am an amateur but always have the Sanyo GC20 for holidays or video and then use my Nikon D3000 with a Tamron 18-270mm lens for everyday photgraphy. I take them both with me everywhere, even just to the shops, just in case an interesting shot comes up. This is especially so when driving as the sky can offer those once in a lifetime opportunities that would be missed otherwise......It also is important to have a camera with me as I am also an artist and use my photographs as inspiration....

Feedback

I think it is just a matter of keeping your eyes open and making the most of any opportunity. This was a "right place right time" situation but if you look at the world around you as a photograph then you can capture anything!
