Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Havana, Cuba. I am an amateur photographer most at ease taking landscapes. I am trying to experiment more with street photography.

Time

This opportunity came up while walking around old Havana one evening. It was at a busy intersection as I suppose people were heading home from work or out for the evening. I was able to set myself and wait for the cars to race forward when the light turned green.

Lighting

Nothing particular other than it was dusk and the street lamps + the building were all I had for lighting.

Equipment

I shot this using my Sony RX-100 II

Inspiration

I had read a bit about panning and thought I would experiment with the cars. I had hoped to catch a car in relative focus with the background in blur to give the impression of speed. I was more than pleased with the result as I did not expect to get only partial focus on the car as well, especially in the way that I did.

Editing

I do not do much post-processing other than cropping and maybe a little dodge and burn. This photo is pretty much as taken.

In my camera bag

I usually walk around with just my RX-100. I do sometimes bring out my old Digital SLR with wide-angle, portrait and zoom lenses, but the camera itself is so old that I get better results from the point and shoot.

Feedback

Don't be afraid to play with the camera and shoot away... some of my best shots are complete surprises to me.
