Behind The Lens
Location
This was from a winter wedding that was photographed just north of Toronto in the home of the Bride's parents.Time
We were getting ready to leave the home to head to the church at around mid day.Lighting
Lot's of natural light through sheer curtains filled the roomEquipment
This was shot with a Nikon D700 and Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 lensInspiration
The bride was ready, her hair and makeup was finished and she was ready to get the show on the road! Everyone else was still working on getting out the door, so as she waited I noticed the mirror and the shot that it was providing. We did some posed shots after this one, but this one to me, truly captures the moment of contemplation and reflection on the day.Editing
I use Lightroom for all of my post processing, with this wedding, I applied a film emulation preset and then proceeded to make adjustments. I typically fine tune the white balance and even though the original preset is a film emulation, I usually remove all of the grain. In my camera bag
My camera bag has consistently held my Nikon D700 and D7000 bodies along with my trusty Nikon 50mm 1.4. The 50 basically lives on the D700. When shooting weddings, I will go to my Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 and Sigma 105 f2.8 as well. I also have two flashes in the bag for when the situation calls for it. When I'm walking around shooting street photography I leave the camera bag at home and carry my Fujifilm x20 and my iPhone with me. I love the size and versatility of the x20 and people are less likely to question me about the pictures I'm taking that may or may not have them in it when I'm not using my honking huge D700 with a battery grip on it!Feedback
I feel as though this image was made possible by simply leaving the bride alone for a bit, staying in the background and letting the day happen. Weddings can be so action packed and there is not often time for the bride or groom to simply sit and think, when these moments happen nobody wants to have to deal with a photographer saying "oh that's sooo perfect! can you just turn your face a little to the left?"
