Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) in Toronto, Ontario.Time
This photo was taken in the late evening during the AGO's free Wednesday.Lighting
Lighting was a challenge. Low light due to being in the evening, dark wood, and lights tucked under the rails. I wanted the rail lights to be the accents.Equipment
I was shooting with my FujiFilm XA1 with a 23mm prime lens. I was also shooting in black and white so that I could see contrast, lighting and shadows. The settings were F2.8 1/15th ISO1600.Inspiration
I love the lines and curves of this staircase. It was designed by Frank Gerhy who renovated the AGO.Editing
This one was truely almost straight out of camera. I bumped contrast a little and adjusted for the bright lights. Fujifilm generates gorgeous jpegs. I also use Capture1 for editing which handles my jpegs and raws wonderfully. In my camera bag
I carry three fast prime lenses, 14mm, 23mm and a 56mm. I also have a teleconverter that makes my 56mm into a macro lens. I always make sure I have three fully charged batteries too. My Fujifilm XA1 is small and compact. I can carry everything I need in a small leather bag!Feedback
Make sure you are using fast lenses (F1.4 to 2) so you can allow the most amount of light in. This means you can keep your ISO low to prevent too much noise. If you can shoot in black & white mode you can check on your LCD how the photo will look. I also shoot in full manual mode. Fujifilm shoots a film like b&w your photo may look a little cleaner than mine!
