Love the red umbrella against the snow.

Behind The Lens

Location

Poet's Walk in Central Park, NYC.

Time

I had dragged my fiance out of bed early on a Saturday morning as the blizzard started. She was a great sport about it as she knows my love for photography. Through the freezing cold, heavy snow and blustery winds we walked about 30 mins to my favorite spot in Central Park. Because of the weather and time of day on a Saturday there were very few people to have to contend with to get the picture just right.

Lighting

All natural light.

Equipment

I used my new Canon 6D along with a red umbrella I bought on Amazon for this exact purpose.

Inspiration

I had taken a photo in this location years ago but with no one around. So when I got my new camera I thought about how to take that picture to the next level. My fiance is usually my muse for photography and wanted her to really stand out in the natural beauty of Central Park so i purchased the red umbrella from Amazon a few weeks earlier in preparation for our first big snowstorm of the year. I got lucky that it happened on a weekend when i could photograph it. We spent all day walking through NYC, from Central Park to across the Brooklyn Bridge, it was a day we will never forget.

Editing

I just bumped up the coloring a little.

In my camera bag

Just a mini tripod, an extra battery and my camera.

Feedback

Having a patient and loving subject who will trek through NYC in a blizzard just so you can get the perfect shot.
