Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my living room, on the couch, while my husband was holding our newborn son.

Time

It was sometime in the afternoon.

Lighting

It was a spontaneous shot so there was no special lighting. It was all natural light mostly coming from a big window to the left.

Equipment

I believe I used my Sony A7 for this shot. Can't remember the lens, but if I had to guess it was my carl zeiss 50mm.

Inspiration

I was inspired to take this because my husband was holding our son like that in his hands and our son was really tiny. I remember seeing his little head in my husband's big hands and just wanted to remember that moment.

Editing

I converted to black and white because I thought it would be more dramatic. My husband was wearing a black shirt so the background was pretty dark already.

In my camera bag

Right now I shoot with with my Sony A7III. For indoor sessions I just my Carl Zeiss 50mm but outdoors I uses my 85mm or 70-200mm. Always natural light for me!

Feedback

If using natural light, make sure you have a good amount of light preferably to one side. Have the person who is holding the baby wear black so its easy for post processing. Using a lens at f1.8 is great so the background is really blurred.
