Location
This photograph was taken through a fence at my local zoo in Jackson, Mississippi.Time
I remember a warm beautiful spring day back last spring in April on Saturday morning wanting to go shoot some animal shots at the zoo hoping to get some lucky poses and looks. Boy did this Cougar deliver. He kept walking right up to the fence within 3 Ft. of me and sniffing at me. I waited for him to pause in the right position to snap the perfect photo.Lighting
It was early morning and the golden hour for photographers in the mornings had just begun to go away' but left the perfect amount of natural light for the shot.Equipment
I used a Canon D40 EOS DSLR with a Tamron 70 mm. to 200 mm lens attachment with auto focus and stabilization mode. I manually focused on this shot.Inspiration
I was inspired to take this shot because of the amount of natural light I was getting was just right, and the cougar was close enough to me I didn't have to use zoom.Editing
I did no post -prossesing on this shot. Everything is natural and non edited. In my camera bag
Canon EOS DSLR Digital Camera, 100 mm. Canon Macro Lens with manual auto focus and stabilization mode. a 100 mm. To 250 mm. Zoom Lens with auto focus and stabilization mode. A Tamron 70 mm. to 300 mm. Zoom Lens with Auto Focus and Stabilization mode. A set of 2x extenders by canon. A go pro shutter release. and a cleaning kit, and two lithium batteries with charger. My name tag. Release forms giving me permission and releasing me to take photos on others land / and or subjects.Feedback
To get that special shot every photographer dreams of' patients is first of all a virtue. Second' always make sure you don't spook your subject' move very slow and take baby steps toward your subject. Alway' always' have your equipment clean, and in tip top shape. Nothing would be worse than snapping a shot only to realize you have a dead battery or a camera defect. I assure you that your subject want give you the same shot twice. And lastly' Do what you love out os passion for what you love and not for profit. Doing photography for profit puts you under pressure, and it takes all of the joy out of it.
