Behind The Lens

Location

I took this during Conowingo's Bald Eagle Day in October of 2014. Conowingo Dam has hundreds of Bald Eagles and all kinds of other birds and animals that reside in the area. Each year they have a particular day that visitors can get help on how to get some good shots from the professional and semi pro photographers that come to the dam often. They also have all kinds of other places that come to the day to show off various birds who cannot be released back into the wild for different reasons. This Hawk was one of them. I thought that he was just so regal sitting there with his handler

Time

Mid afternoon of a beautiful warm and sunny day in the beginning of autumn

Lighting

Since the day was perfectly sunny, it is all natural lighting on this beautiful bird.

Equipment

Cannon T5 with Cannon 18-55 mm kit lens

Inspiration

I just thought this Hawk was so regal and beautiful sitting on the handlers arm, so calm all the while the handler was talking about him and showing everyone his claws and how he catches his prey and who wide his wings are.

Editing

The only thing that I did to the photo in post processing was to crop and tweek the contrast. This was one of my first days with my new camera and the software and did not really know how to do much else and I think I did a good job getting the shot SOOC.

In my camera bag

Cannon T5, Cannon 18-55 mm kit lens, Cannon 75-300 mm lens, Sigma 18-250 mm Lens, tripod, various filters, macro lens, wide angle lens, magnifying filters, flash, flash box, 4 batteries for camera, extra set of batteries for flash, lens cleaning supplies, wrist strap and shoulder carrying strap.

Feedback

Find a bird or animal that interests you that you can zoom in and still see some detail and focus on the eyes. If the eyes in focus, it is usually a wonderful shot. Watch the animal for interesting moves, like cleaning itself, getting ready to come in for their prey, the regal and beautiful look, etc.
