Behind The Lens

Location
In the Eastern Cape, South Africa
Time
It was actually the middle of the day - this photo started out as full colour but there was a beautiful strong curved shadow line down his trunk and I knew that with that strong contrast he would look great as a monochrome portrait
Lighting
I was out in a reserve so couldn't do anything about the lighting and just had to look for good angles instead
Equipment
It was either a Nikon D3200 or D7100 with a Sigma 18-250mm lens. Am on a road trip at the moment and haven't access to my files to confirm which I used !
Inspiration
I was looking to get a portrait shot and this chap was very obliging, stopping to have a look at us before he walked past. The shadows made it a much more interesting prospect than many other shots.
Editing
To get the look I wanted I changed the colour to black and white and then blended the background to black to put the full emphasis on his profile
In my camera bag
Nikon D7200, Sigma 18-300mm, Sigma 10-20mm
Feedback
As with all wildlife photography - know your subject, do nothing to disturb it, and have a huge amount of patience
