Behind The Lens

Location

It was taken on Silver Dollar Eucalyptus branch in my backyard.I kept an eye on this one grew up for a week, then I saw another tiny one hung on besides this guy.I'm not sure the tiny one was her kid or her food.I took this photo on sunny day in the evening after it'd been long week in hurricane season in Florida.

Time

I took this photo on sunny day at noon about 11.00 am after it'd been long week in the gray day with cloudy and windy for hurricane season in Florida.

Lighting

When I had a chance to capture the spider on the brighter sky,I quickly grabbed camera, tripods,Macro lens, ring flash and the ladder and spent time in my backyard. This photo I used the mirror lock up to help me reduce the vibration inside the camera while I put the shutter button.I use manual mode for f18 and iso 200 with natural lighting from sun light.

Equipment

I used Nikon D70s with Macro 105 mm. lens.I set up the camera on tripod and put it on the ladder to approach the spider on Eucalyptus branch.I took a lot of photos for this beautiful spider. Some of my photos I used ring flash, some of them I didn't use tripod but climbed on the ladder and raised my head and camera up against the sky.

Inspiration

The beauty of tiny animal inspired and challenged me to take this photo. It was so amazing to enlarge their gorgeous pattern and color combinations which you can see it with macro lens.I was so excited to see their little world !!

Editing

Sure ! I took photos with raw file and did the post-processing in Lightroom.I adjust the brightness on the shadow since the spider detail was kind of dark and set up the exposure up quite a bit. Then I played around with tone curve and color adjustment until I feel just happy with it.

In my camera bag

I always have Nikon D750 set up with Nikkor 24-85 mm vr lens because it's practical and easy for me.Nothing fancy but happy to take photo and find the angle that just right ! Another lens is a must for me is Nikkor 50 mm.1.8g.I love the beautiful background and foreground from this lens so much. Next I always have Infrared Wireless Remote Control Shutter, battery and tripods. In case I go somewhere where there's the lighting not enough but I need that scene so much, wireless remote control shutter could save my life for sure :)

Feedback

Just appreciate the beauty of things you gonna take photos of them and be patient.Trying to learn new techniques that you never tried, you would be amazed the result. For example I learned that how it's much better picture when I used the mirror lock technique to try capture the spider that had moved always on the thread with the windy. It helped me a lot to reduce the shaking while I clicked shutter button.Being patient is important too because you couldn't control the nature.Spider always walking and hanging in the wind plus their thread on the branch is super tiny and sensitive. You need to be patient to get the beautiful scene.
