Location
This was taken at Parc Omega, an open concept zoo in Quebec, Canada. The animals have large open enclosures in a somewhat natural setting.Time
This was shot in the early afternoon on an overcast day in late winter so I had to brighten up the face a little in post.Lighting
The lighting was fairly soft which worked with what I wanted to do with this shot, as this was what I had in mind and what I was looking for.Equipment
This was hand held with my Nikon D7000 and Tamron 150-600mm lens. I was zoomed most of the way out also. I was looking for a shot where the wolf was looking at or near me and I knew I wanted it cropped in close so any sort of tripod or even monopod was too cumbersome.Inspiration
I wanted a dramatic shot of wolf eyes looking towards the camera. I had to take a fair number of shots that were rejected due to the wolf looking away or poor framing. I had to shoot quick sometimes. :)Editing
I didn't do any major processing, cropping of course, I burnt in the edges and did some slight colour enhancement. Contrast, etc. I also enhanced the eyes a little to get the classic, glowing yellow eyes. I think most images require some post processing a least but it is easy to over due it. Of course, this is a matter of personal taste. :)In my camera bag
It depends greatly on the outing but most of the time it's my D7000, 70-300, 18-55, and 50mm lenses. I usually have a flash and a few filters as well.Feedback
You have to be quick with catching the animal looking directly at you and to get the framing right. Plan to spend a few hours watching the animals. Learn the feeding schedule as that is a good time to see a lot of them together.
