Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken while taking a trip to St Louis, Missouri.

Time

This was taken in the afternoon of a beautiful early spring afternoon.

Lighting

The butterfly was sitting on a rock in the shade, but you can see spots where the sun was peaking through in the background and I loved that.

Equipment

This was shot on my Sony Nex-5, with a 35mm micro e-mount lens. No tripod or other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I loved butterflies and macro photography. Anytime I come across one I snatch the opportunity to capture the beauty of them.

Editing

Photos like this don't usually require much in post-processing for me. It just needed some white balance and saturation correction.

In my camera bag

The first thing that is always packed is my Sony Nex-5 body. It's getting pretty outdated, but I haven't been able to invest in the new a7II yet though it's definitely at the top of my list. My lenses of choice for this trip were my Sony 35mm Macro, 18-200, and 16mm pancake with extra wide angle converter. The last things to be packed are spare batteries and memory cards.

Feedback

Butterflies can be spooked easily. When photographing them it's important to be quiet and still. I suggest investing in a macro lens with a longer focal length (which is also on my list of items to upgrade).
