Location
The village of Oia, on the Island of Santorini, Greece. Took this in September of 2015.Time
It was around 9 A.M. walking around the village, when I ran into this Church. Took forever to frame and isolate it, as there were so many people walking byLighting
The lighting was perfect for the mood shot. In Oia, the sun can be rather intense, even in September. So I Found the right day where the overcast gave this uniform feel with the lighting. I didn't Use filters at the time, so mostly it was about the luck of the weather and time of day. Once i framed it, saw the lighting gave this perfect texture feel, I camped up. *chuckles*Equipment
This one was pretty basic, using my NIKON D5500 and Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens. No additional Filters.Inspiration
*chuckles* I loved the White buildings of Santorini, and I was looking for that one shot, that described Oia, and the Blue Domed Churches along the inner cliffs were it. There was something silently reverent about it with the overcast skies, that kept me there for hours. This one was the long version of another shot I also love of this church.Editing
I did intend to make this just a black and white, but I kept the original Blue of the Church Dome. Other than that, just finding the right tones in the Black and white conversion, it wasn't that much work.In my camera bag
I have a huge bag, a full Backpack it always feels like I'm a soldier hiking with full gear on. With that pack, I always bring my Nikkor 55-300mm, my Nikkor 200-500mm, and my "go to" lens Nikkor 14-24 Ultra wide lens, (How I love that lens!) Add the Lee Little and Big Stoppers, the Hard ND Grad 3 stops filters, the 4-5 back up batteries, Lens cleaners and cloths, extra Memory cards, I'm usually good to go for anything.Feedback
As I've said before, Perseverance, Patience, Determination, and Framing, is the Key. in places like Oia, with the amount of tourists involved, it takes time to get the shot you want. I waited a long time, took around 20 different shots of this church, finding the right mood. It was worth the time and effort. But when I saw this frame, I couldn't NOT take it.
