Cool

Behind The Lens

Location
The photo was taken in a small alley in Cambridge, UK next to King's College
Time
not too late, around 21:00, there were still people walking around or heading back from dinner
Lighting
This extremely low light photo was possible due to a car which is not visible in the frame. It added some white light to the orange street lamp and highlighted people's movement
Equipment
Canon eos 100d
Inspiration
Instagram announced a "nocturnal" theme for their WHP so I went out to get some night shots with street light
Editing
the shot turned out to be very under-exposed so i played around with shadows and whites in Lightroom
In my camera bag
My camera body is very basic. Canon eos 100d with two prime lenses. a)24mm at 2.8 b)50mm at 1.8. I always try to have my tripod with me and and an 8stop ND filter which i did not use for this shot
Feedback
For night shots i find that under-exposed raw files at low ISO produce better results than trying to get it exactly right on site
