Chepstow Castle lies on the Welsh side of the River Wye in Monmouthshire (Sir Fynwy). It continued to be built and improved over the medieval period and finally saw action during the Civil War when it was held by Royalist Monmouthshire against Parliamentarian Gloucestershire who finally captured it in 1648.
