Behind The Lens

Location
This is a place on the slopes of Sarajevo called Zuc 850 meters above sea level. During the siege of Sarajevo between 1992-95 was the first line of defense , battlefield. It was hit 1,000 shells a day in that period. Hundreds of soldiers and the local population were killed there. Today there is a lot of landmines still to be found what makes this course very dangerous for taking photos.
Time
This picture was taken 27.12.2015 between 13:00 and 14:00 pm.
Lighting
December 2015 was a very hazy fog descended on the city and has not lifted for 25 day in the row and if you wanted to see the light of day you had to climb up somewhere very high. The first rays of the sun were starting to show at 850 meters above sea level, the first thing I saw then were the two trees that were peeking from the fog.The image appears to be taken at dusk but it was actually afternoon lighting was really performing tricks!
Equipment
The terrain is heavily contaminated with mines so each picture that you take requires a large distance. At that time I did not have an the lens necessary in such circumstances. I took picture without tripod and used DSC-H50 41.2mm/ƒ/5.6/1/1600s/ISO 100.
Inspiration
I never expected to find such beauty in such a tragic place. I've never been here before and had no expectations. I just wanted to see the sun but this scene of trees defying the fog left me breathless.
Editing
The photo is transferred to the gray scale in photoshop I felt that was the best way to show all the shades and the layers of the fog that was in all the shades of gray possible. I also enhances contrast for only a little bit and that was all.
In my camera bag
Lately I use SLT-A58 and 18-55mm or 55-200mm lenses. Im a Sony user.
Feedback
Camera should be always ready and it is important to have your own "handwriting" your own recognizable style. That is the only thing that sets you apart from others. Do not rely much on the equipment, equipment is not essential ideas and willingness are. It good to have role models but to copy them but learn from them and to inspire.
