This Portland, Maine area lighthouse, built in 1897, guides marine traffic around the dangerous ledge (on which it sits) at the west side of the shipping channel into the inner harbor. It’s become an icon for the city of South Portland. It’s the only caisson-style lighthouse that’s accessible from land – a 950-foot breakwater.

If you want to visit – the Spring Point Ledge Light is located on the campus of Southern Maine Community Collage in South Portland. Just up the road from the much more famous Portland Head Light at Fort Williams Park on Cape Elizabeth.

Great shot of this iconic lighthouse. I missed the sunrise at this one because I was shooting over at Bug Light. Did you take any time to walk about the old fortifications?
