Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Goa, India. The day before a Punjabi wedding there are a lot of festivities. The Vatna and Mehendi Ceremony is full of dancing and singing. Ladies of the family and girlfriends slather the bride with a mixture of turmeric and chickpea flour to beautify her. She then washes it all off and gets dressed up in ceremonial reds and the Menendiwallas adorn her with Henna. Traditionally her feet and legs and her hands up to her elbows are adorned with the black paste. Somewhere in the intricate design the husband-to-be's name is written. At this particular wedding the name of the groom was so long it could not be obscured in the design as is tradition. On the wedding night the husband is to search the design to find his name....

Time

This photo was taken outside, on a beautiful sunny day near the ocean, around noon as the bride was about to leave to take her wedding vows.

Lighting

Natural lighting, outdoors.

Equipment

This was shot with my trusty companion a Canon EOS 70D. Handheld, I had my Tamron SP 70-300 mm lens and no other equipment.

Inspiration

It was my niece's wedding and I had a passion to capture as many memories for her as absolutely possible. Just after her hair and make-up was complete I looked down at her hands and had to take the shot! The other photographers checked out my interest and we all went snap happy.

Editing

My ego says, minimal post-processing, in fact I haven't learned photoshop as I don't want to change the way I shoot a photo. I touch it up minorly with a simple program like Picasa or Fotor.

In my camera bag

This camera with this lens is usually all I have with me. I strap my Canon 70D to my Black Rapid Sport Camera strap and head out. I suppose someday I should remember to grab my monopod!

Feedback

Shoot with passion, get exhilarated with each shot and from each shot learn as much as you can. Enjoy
