This herd was seen a few weeks before my trip to Yosemite-Bodie by some friends. When I came up we spend hours searching for them and finally located the herd. As I approached, they kept running off, giving me excellent shots of horse rears. I decided to sit and let them come to me. I was hoping for any of the horses to come close enough to get a natural shot. What happened next will be one of my all time favorite memories. One of the younger stallions started moving toward me, and his buddy followed. Then another started following, and other. In the end, SIX huge horse stood over me. I was excited and scared. Every single fiber of my being was alert and aware. It lasted all of five minutes or so before the head stallion of the herd ran up and chased everyone away from me. I was afraid he'd come at me too, but he just ran his herd off and that was it. Check that one off the bucket list.

Great Shot.... I still get thrilled every time I go out to see the wild mustangs. Stallions can be very unpredictable as you witnessed. I was shooting some colts and mares on one of my outings, from behind my PT Cruiser with the back hatch up in the air. They were all behind my car when a stallion came up the right side from the front and startled me. He was about 6 feet away before I noticed him, luckily my drivers door was open and I quickly headed for it. He stuck his head inside the back hatch and looked around, before he told me what he thought about me....;0) He then just walked away with all his family following.
