Location
This image was captured during an NCAA basketball game between Seton Hall University and the University of Cincinnati at the Prudential Center in Newark New Jersey.Time
This was an indoor event so time of day was not a factor, but the game was a 12 noon Saturday start.Lighting
The Prudential Center was the home of the NBA New Jersey Nets and is currently the home of the NHL New Jersey Devils as well as the Seton Hall University mens basketball team. The lighting is ideal for available light photography. This image was captured at f/3.5 at 1/1600 ISO 4000.Equipment
A Canon 1DX with a 300mm f/2.8 lens was mounted about 150 feet above the court secured with (2) Manfrotto magic arms and safety chains triggered with a PocketWizard Plus IIIInspiration
I shoot about 40-50 men's basketball games a year and I am always looking for different camera angles to capture more dramatic images. I was a contract photographer for USA TODAY Sports and we compete with the Associated Press and Getty Images. Since we are usually sitting next to each other on the baseline during games, I try to be as creative as possible.Editing
The only post-processing that was done was tighter cropping. In my camera bag
As a professional sports photographer my camera bag usually consisted of the following: (3) Canon 1DX's; 400mm f/2.8; 300mm f/2.8; 200-400mm f/4.0; 70-200mm f/2.8; 24-105mm f/4.0; 24-70mm f/2.8 lenses as well as an assortment of misc items.Feedback
Make sure your exposure and focus is correctly set prior to the event and that your transmitter and receiver is working or you have spent a lot of time and effort to capture nothing. Oh and make sure you are not afraid of heights.
