Location
I shot this photo in Mineral Basin, on the back side of Snowbird, Utah on a run called Lupine Loop.Time
If recall correctly it was about 10:00AMLighting
No flash, snow was bright and reflected decentEquipment
I was using my backups backup, Canon 30D with 70-200mm f4Inspiration
I noticed how the snow was falling and the shaded trees were making the snow really standout. So I set up in the middle of the run and did a test shot. Just after the test shot I heard the scraping of a snowboard carving just over the ridge from where I was and I noticed a cloud of powder bellowing and before I knew it I barely had enough time to grab my camera and point it at the rider and snap this shot. I didn't plan this, it is the result of being in the right spot at the right time and risking my life to stand in in the milddle of a run to get the shot.Editing
I converted to black and white and added contrast and increased white levels a bit.In my camera bag

Cold kills batteries fast! I used a chest harness to keep my batteries warm before shooting and I knew the run, I wouldn't ever recommend standing below a rider coming full speed and them not be able to see you and your camera. I knew this run, the time of day and the amount of traffic coming down at me. When in doubt be safe, wear a beacon, know where to set up to stay safe and always share the mountain.
