Location
The photo was taken in the studio of Photoclub SMILE te Mechelen (Belgium). At time I was the newest member and I joined because I wanted to develop my studio work since I'm a self taught photographer.Time
It still is one of my best images, as it was my first ever studio photoshoot where I worked alone. I woke up very nervous because of it, but when the shoot went through during the afternoon, I felt more comfortable. The mood was good, Amber is such a professional model to work with, which helped a lot.Lighting
Because I used a grey background because of a malfunction of the white background, so I used a 4 lights setup. To on the background to make the grey background as whtie as possible, and a rectangular softbox on either side of Amber.Equipment
I used my Nikon D5000 DSLR with a Sigma 70-200/2.8 EX lens and the studios elinchrome studiolights.Inspiration
As I wanted to do something completly different than what we normally do in the studio (group sessions with various light setups) I spend some time looking up a fun project to do. When I saw several images with balloons on pinterest, I knew that was what I wanted to do.Editing
I added some contrast, softened her skin and brightened her eyes. After that I converted the image into a grayscale image. In my camera bag
My backpack consists with my Nikon D5000, my 50mm f 1.8 Nikkor prime and my Sigma 70-200/2.8. Besides that I make sure I have serveral SD cards, batteries en my external flash (depending on what trip or shoot I've planned I also pack some diffusers or mini softbox). My 5-in-1 reflection screen and tripod are always with me when I leave for a trip, so they're also a standard item in my backpack.Feedback
Since I'm new with studio photography, I don't think I can give much more advice than to try. Try out new things, studiophotography, explore the city, combine different techniques... but most important, have fun doing so. And if you work with models, show them respect and you'll get more work and recognistion.
