Lovely portrait

Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was taken in my little Studio in Hannover, Germany.
Time
I really don't remember... but I still know that it was already dark outside. So I think it was quite late.
Lighting
I talked with a friend of mine about the different kind of lightings we did in our previous shoots. In that discussion he mentioned the lighting which Peter Coulson uses a lot. So I just tried that. Peter uses an octabox from above, but because of my lack of ceiling height, I had to improvise. So I tried my beauty dish from front and above and a Hensel integra 250 with small grid at front. And it really worked...
Equipment
I shoot with my Canon 70D, and most of my pictures are taken with my 24-70mm EF 1:2.8L lens. Sometimes I use my 100mm 2.8L macro lense for portrait, but in this case I wanted to shoot most of her body, so the 100mm wouldn't have worked, or to be honest, I would have had to go too far away, as my 70D is a crop factor camera. All of my flashes in my studio are Hensel integra flashes, and I very often use my beauty dish and some small strip lights.
Inspiration
I was inspired by all of the photos of Peter Coulson, and I wanted to shoot something similar, just to see and learn how he does it. This definitely won't be my last pic I did that way... and the model wanted something very sexy and implied, so we tried a lot of different poses. This one was the best we thought, although we had a lot of great pictures in that shooting.
Editing
The post-processing was prettty simple: I just did the usual beauty retouch and I darkened the shadow, turned it into a b/w picture and that's it.
In my camera bag
My Canon 70D and my EF 24-70mm 2.8L are always there where I go. Sometimes I take my 50mm 1.8, my 100mm 2.8L with me, and if I go outside to shoot nature or architecture pictures, I take my EF 17-40mm 4L, but because my flipside 100 bag isn't as big as I want it to be, I can normally only take two lenses with me.
Feedback
read Peter Coulson's blog, and try, try, try... just like me. I still learn a lot from other photographers!
