You know...I love this just because it's a great shot of a wonderful miniature! I don't think it has much HDR effect, but I don't care...It's beautiful!

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photograph in my bedroom, I have a wooden shelf made from the old roof timbers.

Time

It was late at night, I was feeling creative and fidgety and the light from the small roof lights was shining on one of my favourite items in my room. I think it was around 2A.M. and I had work in the morning.

Lighting

The lighting was a bit of a 'by chance' situation. I have lights embedded in the sloping room of my bedroom, they are spaced out at around half a meter each. I noticed that the light fell on the front just nicely and other items blocked out the light for the back end of the camper which made it look like it was emerging.

Equipment

I used my Canon 60D with a Canon 50mm 1.8f lens, I used a tripod at the lighting is quite low in my bedroom and I needed a longer shutter speed.

Inspiration

I was wide awake in the early hours, couldn't sleep and had work in the morning. I needed to focus on something and felt creative. I've always loved this camper van model, my Dad bought it for my birthday one year.

Editing

I actually took three pictures to make a HDR photograph. I put it in photoshop and combined the images to give a higher tonal range then used Camera Raw to bring out the colours and definition in the camper. It was useful to take the 3 pictures as it gave me more information to play with in the highlights and shadows.

In my camera bag

My bad is usually a mess! I usually have my camera, several lenses (including ones bought from charity shops - with mount adapters), spare batteries, intervalometer, few tools and my "Lonely Planet's Best Ever Photography Tips" book. The later is always nice to have about for a good bit of inspiration.

Feedback

You don't even have to leave the house to get something similar to this! Find your favourite item, a good spot for lighting and play around with your cameras settings.
