Behind The Lens

Location

Museo do Mar - Rio de Janeiro - Brazil

Time

I was wandering outside the building of the museum looking for an angle from which I could photograph the parallel lines of each floor making an angle combining with a portion of the sky and landscape behind.

Lighting

i waited until the sun was hidden by the building sure that this will be provide a nice effect on the clouds contrasting with the dark silhouette of some houses at bottom right corner of the frame

Equipment

This photo was taken with my Sony SLT-A99 with 24-70mm f2.8 Zeiss lens, no tripod, no filters

Inspiration

Lines, mainly parallels are a constant in my photos. I think they provide a kind of movement to the composition making the eye of the observer follow them across the frame. In this particular case they point to the left and right side of the frame and at a first glance you have to make a choice which direction you'll follow raising some tension in your mind.

Editing

Yes, I post-processed in Photoshop with the Nik Collection - Silver Effects Pro. Started with one of the presets provided in the filter and then I tweaked until I got the desired effect.

In my camera bag

Not too much mainly because do not have other lenses for the time being so my bag is always light. A tripod or monopod and a speedlight will be there too depending on the places I have in mind and the time of the day.

Feedback

My only advice is to not intimidate yourself if you do not have top of the line gear or the variety of lenses other photographers have. Be bold, take risks with exposure settings, take pictures that at the time may seem meaningless, make your own mistakes, in the long haul all these things will certainly pay-off.
