Location
This photo was taken in a hut on Iluka Beach, Western Australia.Time
Due to the very bright and strong sun, we had to get up very (very) early. It was still quite cold but the model was very professional and we managed to capture a range of images and poses before the suns strength stopped play.Lighting
I wanted to separate the model from the background and blur it out with a shallow depth of field. Unfortunately, someone saw fit to burn a hole in the floor so access and positioning was restricted.Equipment
Nikon D3 with Nikon 50mm f1.4 ISO 250Inspiration
I'm not a fan of beach shoots. My Nikon's have never played well with sand and water. I was looking for a location that offered protection from a strong sun and provided a degree of shade.Editing
Probably a little bit of PS. A mole or other skin blemish removed. In my camera bag
Nikon D3 and D4s. Nikon 50mm f1.4, 85mm f1.4, 28-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f.28. 2x Nikon SB-800's. Several large reflectors. Grey Card / White Balance ND Filters.Feedback
I love eyes and faces. I try to concentrate on having the eyes in focus. I love eyes!!!! Due to a number of "no shows" or last second cancellations I try to arrange a location shoot in the first instance. If the model turns up, we mutually like the results, then I aim for a studio shoot. Possibly a theme. This was the first time we'd met. Still trying to arrange a studio shoot but she's (now) very much in demand. To me, the most important thing is to build a rapport that can be built on. I normally achieve my best results on a second or third shoot.
