Behind The Lens

Location

This was shot at Snow Monkey National Park in Yudanaka, Nagano Japan.

Time

I believe it was mid afternoon in the winter.

Lighting

The natural light in Japan is fantastic as with Asia on general. If like me you were born in England you will really notice difference.

Equipment

Handheld Nikon D7200 with an 18-300mm Nikon lens.

Inspiration

The monkeys in Yudanaka are full of character and energy. It is a great place to capture wildlife images. The inspiration is everywhere you look here.

Editing

I always keep my editing simple where possible. I inceased the clarity, sharpness and highlights in Lightroom before applying a very slight vignette effect to draw more focus to the centre of the image.

In my camera bag

I never go anywhere without my D7200 and 18-300mm lens. It May not not as sharp as prome lenses but the flexibility it gives me is well worth the trade off. If you are into street photography or love music it's versatility makes it an absolute essential. For architecture I carry a 10-20mm nikon lens and an 8mm fish eye which never leaves me wanting wanting wide angles shots.

Feedback

Don't move from subject to subject too quickly. You can't predict the behaviour of any animal so sticking to one for a few minutes is more likely to yield good results than panning around hoping to get lucky.
