A quiet day from the Mt. Sirente Basin, the lake was formed by a meteor fallen during late Roman age (the only one present in Italy's territory). The park of Sirente Velino is one of the 4 huge parks in the Abruzzo Region (that's why we call it the Green Region) and is part of an important ecological network for the conservation of the rarest sub-species of brown bear: the remaining 50 exemplaries of the Ursus arctus marsicanus.
