Behind The Lens

Location

Being involved with the construction industry, I often visited new construction sites. This was a 24 story apartment block under construction in Auckland, New Zealand, and we were involved with the commissioning of the lift system.

Time

I believe it was around 10am.

Lighting

The original shot was in colour, with the no flash operating. The lighting in the lift shaft was sufficient, and exposure was adjusted accordingly.

Equipment

The camera was a Nikon Coolpix P5000. It's the camera I always carry on construction sites, given its compact and robust construction. While it will only allow jpg exposures, it still responds with outstanding flexibility.

Inspiration

The shot was there for the taking! The opportunity too good to miss! I always have a camera with me. Whether it's the Nikon Coolpix or a Nikon D7100. A camera is part of my apparel, and always will be!

Editing

Adjustment for noise, and changing the rendition to one of Black and White.

In my camera bag

Nikon D7100 complete with a Sigma 17-50mm 1:208 lens

Feedback

Carry your camera whenever you can. You never know when that opportunity to capture a moment, a scene or an incident will open up before you. I've certainly experienced that frustration of missing that magical moment, and wishing I'd had a camera within reach!
