Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken near the Niobrara River, southeast of Valentine,NE. This old road leads to an abandoned farmhouse and runs right next to the river, which is just through the trees on the left. Also, right to the left of the vantage point is Boardman bridge.

Time

This was taken around 3 pm. in December.

Lighting

This was my first time shooting a snowy scene, so it took several tries. It is just natural light on a grey, overcast day.

Equipment

I used a Canon Rebel T5, with an 18-55mm f/3.5 kit lens. No flash or tripod.

Inspiration

I was trying to capture the feeling of a country Christmas. I imagine the people that lived down this road viewed this every year in the winter. I love how the trees form a "tunnel".

Editing

The only processing that I did was On Photoshop to increase the contrast slightly.

In my camera bag

My bag contains my Canon Rebel T5, an 18-55mm f/3.5 lens, a 70-300mm f/4 lens, camera/lens cleaning kit, a wired remote shutter release, UV filter, circular polarizer filter, ND8 filter, extra battery and charger. My tripod bag also attaches to my camera bag.

Feedback

Snowy scenes can be tricky to shoot. Adjust your white balance and ISO until you get what you're looking for.
