That's an awesome shot! I love how you captured this light from the side and also love the mist! Plus of course wonderful composition!
I wish one day to see something like that on my library.
Ciao!

thank you - it comes from planning -watching the weather forecasts, and the sunrise times, and going back again and again until you get the right light

Thank you - actually it's all a question of being in the right place at teh right time - means research, planning, preparedness to be up before the sun

Location
Dartmoor near cherry brookTime
just after sunrise - weather misty/foggyLighting
Shot almost directly into the rising sun through the mist/fogEquipment
Canon 5D mark 3 - 24-105 f4.0 L IS - hand held - ND grad normally used if backlit into the sun, but not used here because no horizon/sky,Inspiration
i like to find images that are different - i had researched location, and saw that there was potential for special shots with fog/mist - i always keep an eye on the weather forecasts, and on this day the forecast was for mist/fog but no cloud, and this was weather i had been waiting for. I woke early and headed off to this location where i knew that i could expect interesting light and strong contrast. Without the mist/fog this shot would be relatively ordinary - i knew that the mist/fog would enhance the image - this was the final picture that i took on the shootEditing
processed in Photoshop - raw file adjusted using clarify, and then minor adjustments of exposure, contrast and shadow detail - cropped to reduce uninteresting foreground. Before final edit I experimented with variations in colour saturation and white balance, but finally left it unchanged - I prefer my colours natural (i don't like chocolate box colours) and often counter the cameras warming/saturating algorithms by slightly desaturating images - that means that when I have captured an image like this I can let the colours speak for themselves knowing they are not unrealistically saturated. In my camera bag
Canon 5d mark 3 - 24-105mm zoom - 100-400mm zoom, 2x teleconverter, system filters including polarising ND grads and ND. tripod, remote release - spare battery and card - lens cleaning stuff - other equipment depends on expected subjects.Feedback
be prepared to lose sleep - know where you are going, and what you expect to find - I use Google Earth as a research tool for locations & this helps me avoid the cliche shots that everybody else comes away with - plan by using available internet resources to establish sunrise times, sun angles, weather, and state of the tide if planned location is coastal. If in any doubt about exposure bracket +2, 0, -2 - make sure you park your car out of frame - take warm clothing if shooting at daybreak
