This is about as perfect as a photo can get! It looks truly three-dimensional, has gorgeous colors and everything is in perfect focus. Congratulations on a real WINNER!!!

Location
This Image was taken along Butte Creek located near Scotts Mills, Oregon.Time
It was my 38th birthday, In my family whenever its someones birthday, we get to choose our activities for the day. I chose to go waterfall chasing. This particular waterfall I attempted to photograph the month earlier. (November) However the road was solid snowpack. Having neither the correct vehicle to drive the road, nor the time to hike it, I was forced to pull the plug and try another day. 2nd attempt was a success! One month later the road was still snow covered, yet my transportation was more up to the challenge. I had drug my entire family out with me on this trip. Hey, it was My birthday! Plus I wanted them to experience the pleasures of seeing natures raw power and beauty, and not just through my images. the experience is the main focus, then the photograph. My family and I enjoyed this cold december 26th 2015 day.Lighting
The lighting on this particular day was a early evening overcast. Nice soft directional glow through the clouds gave nice even lighting. Photographing waterfalls can be a challenge with high contrast scenes. forcing filters and/or bracketing. this nice overcast can really level the playing field when it comes to lighting. and when the clouds aren't to thick you still get a bit of warmth in the soft light.Equipment
This image was taken with a Nikon D750, Polarizer filter on a Nikkor 24-120mm f4 glass. Mephoto Roadtrip tripod.Inspiration
Waterfalls are great subjects for any photographer. They challenge a photographers abilities with Dynamic Range and managing the depth and movement of the waterfall itself. A waterfall has that same effect on people that a fire does. Have you ever found yourself just staring into the flames of a fire? Somehow drawing you in and keeping your attention with no rhyme or reason. but when you photograph a fire it doesn't have that same draw? Well thats just what a waterfall does. but somehow just photographing the waterfall itself it loses that feeling. even though you can slow your shutter down to portray the movement you can't seem to capture that same feeling. Adding a human element into the image I believe creates that feeling again in an image. It lends to the story that the water cascading over the edge has somehow captured your attention. Hopefully allowing the viewer to gaze into the falls as if it was them standing there themselves.Editing
Yes, I always post process. shooting in RAW leaves little to be desired as a straight out of camera image. I process in lightroom to adjust white balance, highlights and shadows. and global contrast then export into photoshop for more local contrast and lighting adjustments using luminosity masks. Clean up the details with some localized sharpening. In my camera bag
Whats in my bag? Well I carry my Nikon D750 for my body. My glass is as following: Nikkor 24-120 f4, nikkor 80-200mm f2.8, Rokinon 14mm f2.8 and a Rokinon 24mm f1.4. polarizer filter, circular variable ND filter, Vello wired trigger, Yangnuo RF603n II remote triggers. Mephoto Roadtrip tripod, modified to have 2 removable legs for walking sticks. and my trusty Marmot Guides Down jacket.Feedback
Just go out and take in what Nature has to offer. If you see something beautiful. attempt to recreate that image you see in your own eyes, through the cameras perspective. I think the key to a great image is tricking the eye into believing they are looking at a 3 dimensional image,
