Riley is one who is hard to capture since he really doesn't like to pose. So with him I just sit and wait to see what he will do and then start shooting.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at his home. I'm his grandma and Riley is not one to sit still for very long, especially for pictures, and usually doesn't like his picture taken. This was a great moment for me and a great accomplishment for Riley!

Time

This is one of my favorite images. My daughter and I set this up in his sisters' bedroom close to the window so we could get the unique lighting we wanted for the shot. We did these old fashioned photos with all 3 of her children. Riley wasn't very cooperative at first (he hates to pose), but once I handed him the "book" and told him to read it, that's when I started shooting, capturing this moment. This was taken in Jan 2016.

Lighting

We wanted to get natural lighting from the window from the side. I think this added some perspective to the shot, giving it a bit of a warm, calm feeling.

Equipment

This was shot on a Canon EOS Rebel T3 with the following: Aperture f/4, ISO 800, Shutter 1/60, Focal length 24/1

Inspiration

My daughter wanted some fun old fashioned photos of her kids. They all looked so cute in their outfits. Riley for some reason really looked the part and I was able to capture the true essence in this photo.

Editing

I only change the photo to Sepia to get the effect that I wanted.

In my camera bag

I usually have my camera, extra lenses, filters, tripod, pretty much everything but the kitchen sink.

Feedback

I don't like to try and pose children, I just like them to act natural and start shooting. I seem to get the best shots that way.
