Behind The Lens

Location
I took this photo when I was on vacation in Canada. I had just entered Banff National Park when I spotted this mountain goat grazing by the side of the road. He sauntered down out of sight before I could get his picture, so I stepped out of the car to investigate. As I peeked over the cliff, I caught him checking me out too! It was the start of a fantastic trip!
Time
It was early afternoon one sunny summer day, probably around 2:00. Banff National Park is beautiful, and I was completely enchanted by everything that I saw during my stay there.
Lighting
I took this photo one a sunny day, when I was completely new to photography. I knew absolutely nothing about camera settings, lighting, etc. I feel very lucky to have this shot!
Equipment
I borrowed my father's camera for the trip just because I wanted to capture some memories...this picture was one of the first ones that sparked a love of photography in my heart. I think it was a Sony, but I have no idea what model.
Inspiration
I wanted to capture every minute of this memorable vacation. As we drove into the park, I spotted this mountain goat, and I was so excited! It was the first one I had ever seen, and I thought he was so cute. When he disappeared down the side of the cliff, I stepped out of the car to try and find him. Spotting him on a tiny outcropping just off the road, I snuck closer when he dropped his head to graze. I did this a few times until I was close enough to see him. Then I caught him peeking over the outcropping, and I snapped this photo. My family has said that I "chased a mountain goat" ever since.
Editing
I didn't know anything about post-processing at the time, so I did not do any.
In my camera bag
I carry two cameras: a Canon Rebel t6i and a Canon Rebel t5. I have two lenses that I love to use: a Tamron SP 150-600mm and a Tamron 70-300 mm.
Feedback
Be consciously aware of your surroundings! I'd have completely missed this shot if I hadn't been mindful of the side of the road. Also, be respectful of wildlife. Even though I "snuck up" on this goat, I was also keeping an eye on how he responded to me. Since he wasn't showing signs of agitation or distress, I knew I was still respecting his space. We are the visitors when we're out in nature - don't crowd wild animals just for a cool shot.
