Location
I took this photo literally in front of my driveway in the west burbs of Chicago.Time
i think that is was around 3 pm, and a winter storm had just rolled in on a Saturday afternoon.Lighting
Shot with a couple of buff Einsteins and 22" white beauty dishes.Equipment
I typically shoot handheld but b/c i had to drag the shutter to get the background lit this was on a tripod. I shoot with a Canon 5d MkIII, 70-200 L, and buff strobes. I think that lights had beauty dishes if you care about such things. And a hand full of extension cords and plastic bags over the lights.Inspiration
A storm had just rolled in on a Saturday early afternoon, my wife had just finished her bassoon lessons for the day ( she teaches on the weekends as a side hustle), and i talked her into standing the cold in front of her car.Editing
I didn't do anything to this past a little color correction in the puter. I do kinda wonder if i should have done a shot without the headlights on for the drag ( to get the neighborhood /ambient and then again without the drag and headlights on) and comp them together if that might have been worth it. -- IE: freezing the snow in front of the headlights. -- perhaps you have a thought on that???In my camera bag
I almost never leave my tiny studio, -- im very ADHD, and changing locations freaks me out and frankly, i get overwhelmed really easily. So not sure if "the bag" applies but i have a bunch of softboxes and dishes, several Bowens and Buff strobes. The camera i use 98% time is a 5d mkIII. Though i do have a sony a7s for a doorstop. :) And an Xrite passport.Feedback
Let yourself play, make mistakes, and "Fail Better"! For a shot like this ( i might suggest something to keep your gear dry as that can be nerve-wracking in the cold and wet.) Look at the camera back and ask yourself "how can this be cooler" and "How can i make this more fun? "
