Location
This photo was taken on Inner Farne a part of the wonderful Farne Islands situtated just off the coast of North Eastern England in the County of Northumberland. These islands are uninhabited and are managed purely for the wildlife and seabird nesting colonies. Twice a day in the breeding season visitors are allowed access onto the islands and and the photo opportunities are fantastic. The Arctic Terns that nest on Inner Farne and are very protective of their nests and chicks and will dive bomb any potential predator including human visitors. You are very well advised to wear a hat otherwise these dainty fairy-like birds are quite capable of drawing blood from unprotected heads.Time

I used a Nikon D610 with a Nikkor 300mm VR lens.Inspiration
The delicate beauty of these birds in flight are always a challenge and to get the right composition takes 10% skill and 90% luck. Hundreds of shots were taken but getting the right composition is in the hands of the gods. The only thing I can say is that the more you study the birds the more likely you get to know what they will do.Editing
I cleaned up the sky for this shot make the subjects stand out a little more and converted to black and white leaving the beaks red.In my camera bag
