Location
This photo was taken in my back yard where is usually find willing subjects. I enjoy photographing at home for the reason that I have all the time in the world with no interruptions.Time
This was a fun capture for me, it was later in the afternoon, the sun was just starting to peak over the mulberry tree at the southern portion on the yard.Lighting
With the sun just starting to share it's self with me and my subject, the light was dappled so the flowers were in the shade. Still with the sun peaking through I had to adjust my ISO to 800. I could have shot at a lower ISO but my preference is to shoot a little darker than most others shoot. I am not a fan of brightly shot images.Equipment
My Sony a65 is my go to camera and my primary lens is my Tamron 90mm 1:2.8 Macro. Ever since I found the macro lens, it has opened up a most entertaining way to pass the time and enjoy my surroundings.Inspiration
I have always been enamored with still life photography in nature and everyday life. So when a new plant flowers, I will watch, study and photograph the flower or flowers for days. It's interesting to see how they grow in size and color each and everyday, until they turn old and withered. Even in death, there is beauty in their texture, change in color, and symmetry. What I have tried to do with this photo, was to incorporate emotional content.Editing
I use Adobe Lightroom for all of my images sometimes more depending on what I am trying to achieve. This photo was a lot of fun to edit. I took the photo to split toning and clicked on the "highlights" and "shadow" to change the color entirely from a beautiful yellow to this dreamy color. I also dropped the "photo" module on top of the screen and flipped the image horizontally for a different perspective. Then taking the contrast slider in the "basic" box at my right, I reduced the contrast to the negative side for a more dreamy perspective. What I tried to do here was to incorporate emotional content. In my camera bag
I have to admit that rarely do I go anywhere with my bag that has a few other older Minolta lenses, flashes, cleaning supplies, etc. Usually all I ever take is my camera and my imagination. What else do you need?Feedback
Just go out and have fun, Don't let yourself get caught up in "having" to shoot everything you look at. Don't worry about all the rules they say you have to incorporate in your photographs. I would recommend knowing the rules of photography because sometimes the rules do work to your benefit.Take your time, study your subject at different angles, with different lighting. I think the best thing I did was learn my manual settings and all the other settings my camera has to offer. After some time, I was able to adjust settings without looking at the buttons. Like everything in our lives if you do anything long enough, muscle memory will take hold and automatically do things for you. If I may...."To me, photography is an art of observation. It's about finding something interesting in an ordinary place...I've found it has little to do with things you see and everything to do with the way you see them." Elliot Erwitt.
